Account management and accessibility

Can I withdraw my money at any time?

Yes, you can withdraw your money flexibly at any time – in full or in part. Simply tap on “Profile” -> “Withdraw capital” in the app. You can then simply send us an e-mail with your transfer request to hello@arvy.ch. It would help us a lot if you could also tell us why you are making a lump-sum withdrawal. This feedback helps us enormously to improve the app and investment experience. There are no lock-in periods or notice periods. However, please note that the process may take a few days. After your withdrawal request, it usually takes 5-6 working days for the money to reach your bank account.

Where can I find my IBAN?

You received your IBAN via text message after successfully completing the onboarding process. We will also send you an email from hello@arvy.ch with your IBAN. You can also find your personal IBAN in the profile section of the app.

Important: Please make sure that you make the transfer from your personal account (not from a joint account) and that you specify yourself as the beneficiary. This is necessary so that we can allocate your payment smoothly.

How do I manage my account?

Your arvy account is fully managed via our user-friendly app. Here you can:

  • View your portfolio
  • Deposit or withdraw money
  • Customize your investment strategy
  • Learn more about financial topics and discover inspiring stories

The app is intuitively designed and makes it easy for you to keep an eye on your finances anytime, anywhere.

Can I also use the arvy app abroad?

Yes, the arvy app works worldwide as long as you have an internet connection. Please note, however, that deposits and withdrawals are only possible via a Swiss bank account.

I would like to change my e-mail address?

Please write us your preferred new email in the chat and we will change it for you.

Later there will be an option to change it in the profile section of the app.

I would like to change my phone number?

Please write us your preferred new phone number in the chat and we will change it for you.

Later there will be an option to change it in the profile section of the app.

How can I close my account with arvy? Can I do this at any time?

You can close your arvy account at any time.

The first step is to withdraw the total amount of your investment solution in the app. To do this, simply tap on “Profile” -> “Capital withdrawal” in the app. You can then simply send us an e-mail with your termination request to hello@arvy.ch. It would help us a lot if you could also let us know why you want to close your account. This feedback helps us enormously to improve the app and investment experience.

Is there a minimum deposit after opening an account?

To activate your arvy account with our partner bank, Hypothekarbank Lenzburg (HBL), you only need to deposit at least CHF 1 in the first 3 months. If you do not do this, your account will unfortunately be closed.

After that, you can pay in additional amounts flexibly – from as little as CHF 50. This is ideal for investing smaller amounts on a regular basis, for example via a monthly savings plan. That’s exactly how we do it at arvy.

There is no maximum amount for your deposits. However, if you want to invest a larger amount of money, we recommend that you pay it in several staggered amounts. Even with a smaller investment amount, it makes sense to divide it into regular and equal amounts. This way you can avoid catching an unfavorable time for your investments and benefit from an even distribution over time.

What happens if I don’t use my account for a long time?

Once you have made your initial deposit, your account will remain active even if you do not make any deposits for a longer period of time. Your existing portfolio will continue to be professionally managed and you can start making new deposits at any time. Management and custody account fees continue to apply.

Can I deposit from any account into my investment solution?

Only bank transfers from a Swiss bank account in your name will be accepted by our partner bank, Hypothekarbank Lenzburg (HBL). This is for security reasons and complies with regulatory requirements.

When making the initial deposit, we also recommend that you do not transfer from a joint account, as there is a risk that HBL will reject the transfer. If you do transfer from a joint account, you must enter your first and last name in the additional field “Payment initiator” or “Payer” in e-banking so that the deposit can be successfully booked.

Why can’t I see my deposit in the app yet?

As our partner bank, Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, still has to check your first deposit manually for legal reasons, it can take around 2-3 days after the debit until it is booked to your arvy account and you can see it in the app.

For all further deposits, it usually only takes 1-2 days.

Why was my deposit returned?

The initial deposit is an essential part of the account opening process and is manually reviewed by our partner bank, Hypothekarbank Lenzburg (HBL). To ensure that your deposit can be successfully processed, the information provided with your transfer must match the information stored with your bank. If the details do not match, the payment will be automatically returned.

For every initial deposit, the following three items are verified:

  • Beneficiary: The beneficiary name must match your own name exactly as it is registered with your bank.
  • Payment Initiator: The transfer must be initiated by you.
  • Account Holder (Payer): The payment must come from an account in your name. Important: The address registered with your bank must also match.

To ensure a smooth account opening process, please keep the following in mind:

You are both the sender and the beneficiary

When making the transfer, enter your own full name (and address) as the beneficiary, exactly as they are registered with your bank. Please do not enter arvy or our address as the beneficiary, as you are transferring funds to your personal account with HBL, not to arvy. arvy simply manages your account.

Initial deposits from joint accounts

If you are making your initial deposit from a joint account, we recommend entering your own full name in the "Payment Initiator" or "Payer" field in your e-banking, if available. This helps HBL identify you as the account holder and ensures the payment can be accepted.

Following these steps will help ensure that your arvy account is opened without delay. If you have any questions or need assistance, we're always happy to help 😊.

Is it possible to transfer securities such as ETFs or funds from an external (pillar 3a) account to my arvy account?

This is only possible via a cash deposit. This means that you can instruct us to sell the existing securities from an existing pillar 3a solution and transfer the money to your arvy account. The same procedure is also possible if you sell the securities in another account and transfer the cash holdings to your arvy account.

Where can I find the tax statement?

You can find the tax statement in your app in the profile area under “Documents” -> “View Documents” -> “Document type” -> “eSteuerauszug”. It is expected to be available in the app from February 25.

Where can I find all the information about custody fees, payment orders, stock exchange notifications about purchases and sales, and other transaction-related data?

You can find all the information in your app in the profile area under “Documents” -> “View documents” -> “Document type.”

Account opening and requirements

How do I open an account with arvy?

Download the app (App Store/ Google Play), register with your email, answer a short goals/risk questionnaire, and scan your ID/passport. Verification by our partner bank typically takes ~2 business days, after you can start investing. Our Pillar 3a can currently be opened on the website and will be intergrated into the mobile application in the course of this year.

Who’s eligible?

People domiciled and taxable in Switzerland, 18+, with a Swiss mobile number. For regular investing you also need a Swiss bank account.

What documents do I need?

A valid ID or passport. For Pillar 3a, you’ll additionally need your AHV number (on your health insurance card for example).

Is there a minimum investment?

For our Savings plan, the initial deposit is CHF 100; afterwards you can top up flexibly from CHF 50/month . There is no minimum for Pillar 3a plan. The maximum amount you can invest in Pillar 3a plan for the year 2026 is CHF 7,258.

Are there restrictions for U.S. persons?

Yes. US citizens and companies cannot open an account for regulatory reasons.

Where is my money held?

You will get a personal account at our partner bank, Hypothekarbank Lenzburg (HBL), where your money and your investments are optimally protected. Your deposits benefit from deposit protection of up to CHF 100,000.which means that in the event of arvy or the bank going bankrupt, the liquidity portion of your investment solution is protected up to this amount. Your investments remain legally yours even if arvy or the bank goes bankrupt. You transfer the money you want to invest into your HBL account. You can find the relevant account details in the app in the profile section. All transactions for buying and selling your investments are then carried out from this account.

Can I open an account for someone else (e.g., a child)?

Not yet, third-party/children’s accounts aren’t available right now. But we are working on our new investment plan Children’s plan, which is coming soon to our mobile application.

How long does signup take?

For our Savings plan, it takes less than 10 minutes to open an account via the app. Verification usually takes 2 working days, after which you’ll receive an SMS with your IBAN and can start investing immediately.

Opening a Pillar 3a account also takes about 10 minutes, with all details sent by e-mail.

Can I sign up with a foreign passport?

Yes, if you’re legally residing in Switzerland. You’ll typically need a valid Swiss residence permit in addition to your passport for verification. If you want to open Pillar 3a account, you will also need you AHV number (on your health insurance card for example).

What if my identity check fails or gets stuck?

Ensure your ID photos are clear, unexpired, and match your personal details exactly (name, address). Try again in good lighting; if it still fails, contact us and we’ll review your case.

What should I do if the identification failed?

We’ll notify you by email if the identification process fails. This can sometimes happen if the initial check was successful, but then our staff notice that, for example, the signature is illegible. In that case, you’ll be notified by email and will see a button in the app dashboard that lets you try the identification process again.

Why does it take a few days before I can transfer money?

When you open your account in the app, you are opening a bank account with Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, where your money is securely held. Once we have collected all your information, we forward it to Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, which then verifies the data and opens the account. You will then be assigned your personal IBAN. We decided against a collective IBAN because, although this process is faster, it poses operational risks (for example, a transfer can “get lost” if the reference is forgotten). With a personal account, the money always ends up in your account, regardless of whether a reference is included. Additionally, the money in your personal account belongs to you. With a collective account, it is only separated from other customers electronically.

Is the arvy equity fund suitable for a savings plan (Sparplan)? (Germany/Switzerland)

Yes — the arvy equity fund is ideally suited for regular investing via a savings plan.

Our strategy is built on buying and holding quality companies: We invest in around 30 of the world’s best businesses — companies with strong brands, high margins, stable cash flows, and sustainable growth. These so-called compounders don’t generate returns through short-term trading, but through the compounding effect over years and decades. That’s exactly what makes them the perfect foundation for a savings plan.

Why is this such a good fit?

Compounding meets compounding: Compounder stocks grow their intrinsic value over time. When you also invest regularly, the effect multiplies — your money grows on two levels simultaneously.

Cost-average effect: With a savings plan, you automatically buy more units when prices are low and fewer when prices are high. Over time, this creates a favourable average purchase price. You don’t need to find the “perfect entry point” — which, in practice, doesn’t exist anyway.

Discipline without effort: A savings plan runs automatically. No “Should I buy now?”, no “Is the market too high?”. You invest regularly regardless of market movements — exactly what produces the highest long-term returns.

Low entry: One fund unit costs approximately EUR 11. Savings plans start from as little as EUR 25/month depending on the platform. You don’t need a large starting capital.

Accumulating: The fund is accumulating — all returns are automatically reinvested, maximising the compounding effect. You don’t need to do anything.

Example: EUR 200/month over 20 years

 InvestedEnd Value*From Compounding
10 yearsEUR 24,000EUR 34,500EUR 10,500
20 yearsEUR 48,000EUR 98,400EUR 50,400
30 yearsEUR 72,000EUR 227,000EUR 155,000

* Assumption: 7% average annual return (historical average for global equities). No guarantee of future results.

Where can I set up a savings plan for the arvy fund?

In Germany, the fund is available on platforms that offer savings plans, including Comdirect, FFB, Ebase, Fondsdepotbank, and others. You can check whether the arvy fund is available as a savings plan directly in your bank’s securities search (WKN A3EK6M, ISIN LI1306144810 for the EUR share class). If the fund is not yet available as a savings plan at your bank, you can ask your customer service to enable it — or alternatively set up a manual standing order and purchase fund units regularly.

In Switzerland, the arvy app offers an integrated savings plan starting from CHF 100/month — including Pillar 3a and free investing. Simply set up a standing order with your bank and your wealth grows automatically.Tax advantage in Germany: As a private investor, you benefit from the 30% Teilfreistellung (partial tax exemption — the maximum rate for equity funds). Only 70% of your returns are subject to the flat-rate withholding tax (Abgeltungssteuer).

Do I need to declare the arvy fund in my German tax return? How does the Vorabpauschale work?

Short answer: If you hold the fund through a German custodian bank (e.g. Comdirect, Sparkasse, Volksbank), everything is handled automatically. You generally don’t need to declare anything extra.

Although the arvy equity fund is domiciled in Liechtenstein, it is treated the same way as a German fund for tax purposes, as long as you hold it through a German custodian bank (Depotbank). Here’s what that means:

Withholding tax (Abgeltungssteuer): Your custodian bank automatically deducts the flat-rate withholding tax (25% + solidarity surcharge + church tax if applicable) — minus the 30% Teilfreistellung for equity funds. You don’t need to calculate or file anything yourself.

Advance lump sum (Vorabpauschale): Since the fund is accumulating (returns are reinvested, not distributed), the German tax authorities levy an annual Vorabpauschale — a minimum tax on the calculated increase in value. Your custodian bank handles this calculation entirely automatically. The amount is debited from your settlement account in early January.

Tax-free allowance (Sparerpauschbetrag): As a private investor, you have a tax-free allowance of EUR 1,000 per year (EUR 2,000 for married couples). As long as your total investment income — including the Vorabpauschale — stays below this amount, you pay zero tax. Make sure to set up a Freistellungsauftrag (tax exemption order) with your custodian bank.

Practical example: With a savings plan of EUR 200/month, your portfolio after 2 years is roughly EUR 5,000–6,000. The Vorabpauschale on this is typically just a few euros per year — well below the Sparerpauschbetrag. This means: in the first years of your savings plan, you will likely pay no tax at all.In summary: German custodian bank = everything automatic. Set up Freistellungsauftrag = tax-free up to EUR 1,000/year. The fund creates no additional tax burden compared to a German ETF.

Can I invest my employer’s VL (Vermögenswirksame Leistungen) in the arvy fund?

Yes — the arvy equity fund is available as a VL savings plan through selected fund platforms.*

What are Vermögenswirksame Leistungen (VL)?

VL is an employer benefit unique to Germany — up to EUR 40 per month paid directly into a fund on your behalf. Many employees don’t use this benefit at all, or park it in a low-interest savings contract (Bausparvertrag). Investing VL in an equity fund is the highest-return option over the long term.

There’s also a government bonus:

If your taxable income is below EUR 40,000 (single) or EUR 80,000 (married), you receive the Arbeitnehmersparzulage: a 20% bonus on your VL contributions to equity funds, up to EUR 80 per year. That’s free money from the government — on top of your employer’s contribution.

Why arvy for VL?

Most employees choose a standard ETF or bank fund for their VL. With the arvy equity fund, you invest instead in 30 hand-picked quality companies — with a track record that has outperformed the broad market over 7 years. And you benefit from the 30% Teilfreistellung as a classified equity fund.

How to set up VL in the arvy fund:

1. Open a VL depot at a fund platform that carries the arvy fund (e.g. via Ebase/FNZ or FFB).

2. Select the arvy equity fund (WKN A3EK6M, ISIN LI1306144810 for EUR hedged).

3. Forward the employer certificate (Arbeitgeberbescheinigung) to your employer — they will then transfer the VL directly to your VL depot.

4. Claim the Arbeitnehmersparzulage in your tax return (Anlage VL).* VL availability depends on the respective platform. Please check VL eligibility directly with your custodian bank.

I already have an MSCI World ETF. Why should I add the arvy fund?

Great question — and the honest answer: An MSCI World ETF is an excellent starting point for most investors. We’d never advise against it. But there are good reasons to complement it with a quality fund like arvy.

The problem with “buy everything”

An MSCI World ETF invests in over 1,500 companies. That sounds like maximum diversification — and it is. But you also own hundreds of mediocre and weak businesses: companies with shrinking margins, high debt, poor management, or outdated business models. You own everything — the good and the bad.

The Core-Satellite strategy

Many experienced investors use an approach called Core-Satellite: The Core (e.g. 60–80%) is a broad, low-cost ETF — your MSCI World. The Satellite (e.g. 20–40%) is a focused, higher-conviction addition. That’s exactly where the arvy fund fits.

What arvy adds as a Satellite:

Quality filter: Instead of 1,500 companies, you own the 30 best — hand-picked based on margins (avg. 60% gross margin vs. 35% in the S&P 500), return on capital (31% ROCE vs. 18%), and leverage (0.6x Net Debt/EBITDA vs. 1.3x). These are the companies that carry the index long-term.

Real conviction: We know every single company in the portfolio — and can explain in our Weekly newsletter why it’s there. With an ETF, you own companies you’ve never heard of.

Outperformance: The arvy equity fund has outperformed global equity markets over 7 years on a risk-adjusted basis — net of fees. That’s not a guarantee for the future, but it shows the approach works.

Skin in the game: The founders invest their own money in exactly the same fund. No ETF provider does that.

Understanding over blind faith: Through our weekly analyses, you understand what’s in your portfolio. In a crisis, when your ETF shows −30%, most people panic-sell. When you understand your companies, you stay invested. That’s the single biggest return driver of all.

Example: 70% MSCI World + 30% arvy

TER0.20%1.22%Avg. ~0.50%

Our honest advice: If you’re purely looking for the cheapest path and don’t care about individual companies, an ETF is perfect for you. But if you’re willing to invest part of your portfolio more intentionally — in companies you understand, selected by professionals who risk their own money — then arvy is the meaningful addition.

ETF Savings Plan

ETF Savings Plan — frequently asked questions. Costs, the investment, tax, security and practice. If your question is missing, write to us.

What is the arvy ETF Savings Plan?

An automated savings plan that invests in a globally diversified portfolio — developed and emerging markets, with bonds added depending on the profile. You set up a standing order and the rest runs by itself: the money is invested weekly, income is reinvested automatically, and we keep the weights in line through your contributions.

Who is it for?

Anyone who wants simple, low-cost participation in global equity markets without worrying about stock selection or rebalancing. It works as a first step and equally as a low-cost base alongside an active strategy.

How does it differ from the existing arvy savings plan?

The existing savings plan invests in our actively managed portfolio of around 30 hand-picked quality companies. The ETF Savings Plan tracks a broad world index — no selection, but considerably cheaper. The two can be combined.

Can I have both at the same time?

Yes. Many investors use the ETF Savings Plan as a low-cost core and the active portfolio alongside it. How to weight the two is covered in Core-Satellite Explained.

Is passive better than active?

Not as a general rule. Across all active funds, the majority underperform their index after costs — which argues for passive. But passive also means nobody is steering: an index buys what is large and asks no questions about valuation. That is why we offer both, and promise no guaranteed outperformance on the active side.

What does the arvy ETF Savings Plan cost?

A 0.39% management fee plus 0.06% to 0.08% product costs, depending on the profile. For the Growth profile that is 0.45% all-in per year, for Balanced 0.46% and for Defensive 0.47%. The management fee is paid to us; the product costs arise in the funds used and are settled directly in their prices. The full breakdown is on The Building Blocks.

Why do you state both figures (fees) separately?

Because only the total is comparable. A provider charging 0.25% management and 0.24% product costs lands at 0.49% all-in — higher than us, even though its first number looks lower. Comparing only the management fee means comparing the wrong number.

Is there a fee per execution?

No. That is why there is no minimum amount: the percentage burden on CHF 1 is exactly the same as on CHF 100,000. With providers charging fixed transaction fees it is different — CHF 9 on a CHF 100 contribution is 9%, gone before anything is invested.

Is there an FX surcharge?

None, for a simple reason: no currency is exchanged at all. Every building block is bought in Swiss francs, so no FX surcharge arises — 0%. Surcharges of up to 0.50% per transaction are common in the market, and they apply to every contribution rather than to assets. The currency risk of the underlying shares of course remains; what you save is the surcharge, not the risk.

Does stamp duty apply?

On the developed markets ETF yes: the federal transfer stamp duty of 0.15% on foreign securities is a tax, not a fee. Subscribing to the two Swiss index funds does not incur it. On an initial CHF 10,000 in the Growth profile that is roughly CHF 13.

Does a transaction fee of SIX apply?

Yes. SIX charges a transaction fee of 0.015% on each trade (minimum CHF 0.05 per trade)—this fee cannot be avoided and is paid by the customer. On an initial deposit of CHF 10,000, that amounts to CHF 1.50.

Does rebalancing cost anything?

No. We keep the weights in line purely through new contributions and never sell to do it. That means no stamp duty and no spread arise from balancing. Portfolios that are reset through sales incur roughly 0.03% a year for it.

What about withholding tax on dividends?

US companies withhold tax on dividends before the fund receives anything. How much depends on fund domicile. The developed markets block is domiciled in Ireland and pays 15% instead of 30% under the double taxation treaty. With roughly 70% US weight in that index it is worth about 0.15% to 0.19% a year. The emerging markets block holds no US dividends; there the source countries levy their own withholding taxes, equally for every provider regardless of fund domicile.

Are there hidden costs?

No, and we list the items individually so you can check: management fee, product costs, withholding tax and stamp duty. No fee per execution, no performance fee, no account maintenance fee, no currency conversion. At fund level a subscription charge may apply; the terms are in the respective factsheet.

What is invested in?

A global equity portfolio built from two blocks: roughly 88% developed markets and roughly 12% emerging markets. In the Defensive and Balanced profiles a third block with Swiss franc bonds is added. Which funds those are, with ISIN and costs, is set out on The Building Blocks.

What is the MSCI World?

An index of large and mid-sized companies from 23 developed markets, weighted by free-float market capitalisation. The US weight is roughly 70%. Details in The MSCI World: What Is Actually In It.

Are emerging markets included?

Yes, through a second block weighted at roughly 12%. The MSCI World itself covers only developed markets, which is why we add to it. Together that gives the same coverage as the MSCI ACWI. The trade-off between indices is in MSCI World, FTSE All-World or ACWI.

Why not use an even broader index?

We do use a broader one — we just assemble it ourselves. A single fund covering developed and emerging markets costs 0.12% to 0.20% a year; our two blocks together cost 0.06%. The price for it is one additional holding in the portfolio.

Is the fund physical or synthetic?

Every block is physical: they hold the securities themselves. A synthetic structure would avoid the remaining US withholding tax — roughly 0.13% a year — but creates counterparty risk and is less traceable. There are synthetic world funds cheaper than our combination; that is the reason we do not use them. The full trade-off is in Physical or Synthetic.

Does the fund lend securities?

The developed markets ETF may. According to the prospectus, equity index funds may have up to 50% of the portfolio on loan at any time, and at least 80% of gross revenue is credited to the fund. Lending is collateralised but still creates a counterparty, even in a physical fund. The two Swiss index funds lend no securities at all; that is what NSL, for No Securities Lending, stands for. Anyone writing that physical replication means no risk has not read the prospectus.

What happens to the dividends?

They are reinvested inside the funds automatically, because every block is accumulating. No stamp duty arises on your side and you need do nothing. Tax treatment is unchanged — see below.

Are there different risk profiles?

Yes, three: Defensive with 30% equities and 70% bonds, Balanced at 60% to 40%, and Growth with 100% equities. The equity part is built the same way in every profile, namely roughly 88% developed and roughly 12% emerging markets.

The focus is the world equity portfolio at 100% equities and 0.45% all-in. Alongside it are two mixed profiles combining the world index with a Swiss bond fund: balanced at 60% equities and conservative at 30% equities, both at 0.46% all-in.

To be straight about it: Swiss bonds currently yield below one percent. The fund used has lost roughly 0.46% a year over the past five years. At this rate level bonds are not a return component but a tool against volatility — sensible with a short horizon, or if you would otherwise sell in a decline.

Is there a minimum amount?

The entry point is CHF 500. After that there is no minimum contribution: because there is no fee per execution, the percentage burden on small amounts is the same as on large ones. The CHF 500 has a practical reason — from that amount the split between the building blocks can be represented cleanly.

How often is it invested?

Weekly. The more frequent the execution, the shorter your money sits uninvested on average. The effect is small, but it costs nothing — and over thirty years small effects accumulate.

How do I start?

Download the app, open an account, choose the ETF Savings Plan and set up a standing order. It takes a few minutes. After that it runs automatically.

Can I invest a lump sum too?

Yes. A bonus, an inheritance or capital from a pension fund can be invested just as monthly amounts can. With larger single amounts, investing immediately beats staggering in roughly two cases out of three, because markets rise more often than they fall.

Can I pause or cancel the plan?

At any time, with no minimum term and no notice period. You can change the amount, pause it or stop entirely. On selling, stamp duty and spread apply as with any transaction.

How quickly can I access my money?

The sale is executed in the fund's normal trading rhythm, after which the transfer takes standard banking times. A securities portfolio is not a savings account — money needed at short notice should not be invested.

Can I transfer an existing portfolio?

Talk to us. Whether a transfer is possible or whether it has to be sold and repurchased depends on the transferring institution and the fund held.

Can I switch between the arvy steps?

Yes, at any time and in either direction — from the ETF Savings Plan to a combination with the active portfolio and back. The switch itself is free; reallocating incurs the usual transaction costs. You can also easily open several accounts and invest into different strategies and risk profiles.

Is there an ETF Savings Plan for children?

For children we have the arvy children's account. That is where compounding works longest — CHF 50 a month from birth becomes roughly CHF 21,500 by the eighteenth birthday.

Is it available in Pillar 3a?

A solution for restricted pension assets is in preparation. Terms and timing will be communicated once settled.

What return can I expect?

No particular one. Broad equity markets have averaged around 7% a year gross over long periods, with considerable volatility and individual decades well below that. Roughly one calendar year in four was negative. That is a historical average, not a commitment for your investment period.

How far can the value fall?

Considerably. The fund's key information document shows a stress scenario of roughly 60% loss after one year, and the regulatory risk indicator is 4 out of 7. That is not scaremongering but a required disclosure — and the most honest figure about this product.

What should I do if markets fall?

As a rule, nothing. Selling in a decline makes the loss permanent. We get in touch: at a ten percent decline we put it in context; at twenty percent we point out that historically those were the moments when adding paid off most. The decision is yours.

Who is the ETF Savings Plan not suitable for?

Anyone who needs the money in the next few years. Anyone trading short term. And anyone who wants to pick their own securities — there are cheaper routes for that through a broker.

What is the largest cost factor?

Your own behaviour. Research estimates that investors lose roughly 1% to 1.5% of return a year through poor timing — more than all fees combined. That is why the whole learning section belongs to the savings plan: the guide, the calculators, the glossary and the newsletter.

What are emerging markets?

Countries whose capital markets are considered less developed than those of industrialised nations — measured by size, accessibility for foreign investors and regulatory environment. The index covers 24 such countries. The largest are Taiwan, China, India, Korea and Brazil.

Why hold emerging markets at all?

Because they make up roughly one eighth of the investable world market. Leaving them out is not a neutral decision; it is a bet that they will do worse than the rest. If you want to hold the world market, hold all of it.

Why around 12% emerging markets?

Because that is roughly their current weight in the MSCI ACWI, the index that covers developed and emerging markets together. The number is not our judgement, it is the market weight.

Will the 12% emerging markets stay the same forever?

No. The weight follows the index. We review it twice a year and correct it if it is off by more than one percentage point — through incoming contributions, not through sales. Price movements alone do not shift the weight: if one part outperforms, its weight rises with us exactly as it does inside the index.

Why two blocks instead of a single world fund?

Cost. A single physical fund covering developed and emerging markets costs 0.12% to 0.20% a year; our two blocks together cost 0.06%. On top come buying in Swiss francs and no stamp duty on the Swiss fund. The price for it is one additional holding in the portfolio.

What is actually inside emerging markets?

Not what most people expect. The largest block is information technology at roughly 42%, followed by financials at roughly 20%. So it is less about commodities and low-cost manufacturing than about semiconductors, electronics and internet groups. That is also the honest flip side: this block is heavily concentrated in one sector.

Are emerging markets riskier than developed markets?

Yes. Price swings are larger, legal and supervisory systems differ, and political risk is added. The fund used shows it itself: 2022 came in at around minus nineteen percent, 2026 so far at plus thirty. That is precisely why emerging markets make up only about one eighth of the equity part.

Why is one block an index fund rather than an ETF?

Because an index fund can be subscribed in fractions, while an ETF can only be bought in whole shares. That is why the split between the blocks works from CHF 500 rather than from several thousand francs. Subscribing to a Swiss fund also incurs no stamp duty.

Do I have to do anything to keep the split right?

No. Every contribution is allocated so that it moves the portfolio closer to the target weights. In the first weeks of a small portfolio the weight can deviate slightly; that closes by itself with every further contribution.

Can I opt out of emerging markets?

Not in the standard portfolio. Anyone who has to exclude a region for personal or tax reasons should talk to us before starting.

Who is arvy not the right choice for?

Anyone who has demonstrably held through two market crises without flinching — they are cheaper on their own. Anyone who wants to pick their own holdings. Money needed within a few years. And anyone needing comprehensive advice on succession, mortgage and company.

What does founder-led mean?

arvy is owned by its three founders. There is no group with quarterly targets and no financial investor with an exit date. The founders invest their own money in the same portfolios as clients, on the same terms.

Do you promise I will do better with you?

No. We do not claim that our commentary recovers those 1% to 1.5% for you — that would be a return promise. What we commit to is explaining, in difficult phases, what you own and why, and that you can reach someone who knows the portfolio.

What is the behaviour gap?

The distance between a fund's return and the return its investors actually get. Research by Vanguard, Morningstar and Dalbar estimates it at 1% to 1.5% a year. The cause is not a cost item but behaviour: selling in a decline, buying after strong years, pausing when it gets uncomfortable.

Would it not be cheaper to do everything myself?

It depends. Doing it yourself costs 0.20% to 0.50% a year once you add up product costs, custody fee, brokerage, currency conversion and the tax statement. At the lower end you are roughly 0.25% cheaper than we are, at the upper end more expensive. On top come roughly 150 hours of your time over thirty years. And it depends on your behaviour gap: 0.25% a year already erases the advantage.

Are you cheaper than other digital providers?

By hundredths of a percent, yes. Over thirty years at CHF 500 a month that is roughly CHF 3,250 against the next cheapest provider. Against a bank mandate at 1.2% to 1.8% it is CHF 75,000 to CHF 127,000. The first difference is small, the second is large.

What is the biggest difference between arvy and other providers?

Not the price. On the ETF Savings Plan we are ahead at 0.45% all-in, but only by 0.02% against the next provider. The difference is that we disclose every building block we use, that we also write down what argues against us, and that a full learning section and reachable people come with the plan. In detail in What Makes arvy Different.

Fees and costs

What fees do I pay with arvy?
image
image

An annual management fee plus the product costs of the funds used. How much depends on the variant: World Market 0.39% plus 0.06% to 0.08%, World Market with Founders' Selection 0.59% plus 0.12% to 0.13%, pure Founders' Selection 0.79% plus 0.15% to 0.22%. All-in that is 0.45% to 1.01% a year. The table above shows all three side by side.

This fee covers the following:

  • The professional management of your portfolio
  • All transaction costs and custody fees
  • The use of our app with all its functions, including educational content and support
  • Tax certificate
  • Other providers charge up to 0.5% foreign currency surcharges, with arvy these are included
Can I reduce my fees?

Yes, by choosing the variant. World Market is the cheapest at 0.45% all-in; Founders' Selection is the most comprehensive at up to 1.01%. You can switch at any time in the app and we charge nothing for it.

What are “product costs”?

These are the fees of the funds and ETFs in your portfolio. They are not invoiced separately but settled directly in the fund's price — you never see them on a statement. Depending on variant and risk profile they run between 0.06% and 0.22% a year.

We always state the management fee and product costs separately, because only the total is comparable. A provider with a low management fee and expensive products is not cheap overall.

Do I pay fees for deposits or withdrawals?

No. Depositing and withdrawing money is completely free.

Is there a minimum fee or minimum investment?

There is no minimum fee. Entry starts at CHF 500. After that there is no minimum contribution and no minimum term — because there is no fee per execution, the percentage burden on CHF 20 is exactly the same as on CHF 100,000.

How are fees charged?
  • Management fee: deducted monthly, calculated on the invested assets.
  • Product costs: contained in the funds and settled in their price.
  • Stamp duty: applies on every transaction and is set by law.
Can fees change over time?

The management fee is fixed per variant. Product costs can change if a fund adjusts its charge or if we replace a building block — which funds are currently used, with ISIN and costs, is set out on The Building Blocks. Stamp duty depends on the statutory rules and on your profile.

How does arvy’s pricing compare to banks or other robo-advisors?

Per year on CHF 10,000: arvy costs CHF 45 to CHF 101 depending on the variant, a typical ETF robo-advisor around CHF 94, a classic bank solution around CHF 343. The World Market variant therefore sits below the cheapest robo-advisors, and Founders' Selection at their level — with active stock selection instead of index tracking.

The full workings are in the fee comparison.

Are there any hidden or surprise charges?

No. The items are stated individually: management fee, product costs and stamp duty. No custody fee, no execution fee, no performance fee, no account maintenance fee, no FX surcharge.

For completeness: at fund level a subscription charge may apply. The terms are in the respective factsheet.

Is arvy more expensive than a robo-advisor?

Not in the World Market variant: CHF 45 to 47 a year on CHF 10,000 against around CHF 94 at a typical provider. Anyone choosing Founders' Selection pays CHF 94 to 101, roughly the same as a robo-advisor — but gets around 30 hand-picked companies instead of an index, and founders investing their own money alongside.

We expressly do not promise outperformance in return.

Why is arvy cheaper than a bank?

Traditional banks spread costs across several layers: advisory fee, custody fee, in-house fund costs and transaction costs. Together, 1.5% to 3.5% a year is typical. At arvy you pay 0.45% to 1.01% all-in.

On CHF 10,000 that is a difference of CHF 240 to CHF 300 a year. Over twenty years at CHF 500 a month it adds up to CHF 65,000 to CHF 88,000.

What’s included in the arvy fee?

Everything. Professional portfolio management, all transaction costs, custody fees, foreign currency charges, the annual tax statement, and access to all educational content including arvy's Weekly newsletter. There are no hidden costs. -> Fee comparison.

What is stamp duty and how does it affect me?

The federal transfer stamp duty is a tax, not a fee — it cannot be avoided. It is 0.075% on Swiss and 0.15% on foreign securities, and applies on purchase and on sale.

How much it affects you depends on the building blocks used: issuing new units of a Swiss fund incurs none, while buying a foreign ETF on an exchange does. In the World Market variant that is roughly 0.13% on each contribution in the Growth profile, and less in the Cautious profile.

Do I pay more if I choose a cautious profile?

In the World Market variant, marginally — because the bond fund costs slightly more than the equity part: 0.47% instead of 0.45% all-in. In the other two variants it is the other way round: there the bond part is cheaper than the equity part, so the cautious profile is slightly cheaper.

Is currency exchanged on my contribution?

No. The building blocks are bought in Swiss francs, so no currency is exchanged and no surcharge arises: 0%. Surcharges of up to 0.50% per transaction are common in the market, and they apply to every contribution rather than to assets.

The currency risk of the underlying shares of course remains — what you save is the surcharge, not the risk.

Would it not be cheaper to do everything myself?

Anyone who buys with discipline through a cheap broker, avoids the currency conversion and prepares their own tax paperwork lands at 0.20% to 0.50% a year and is cheaper than we are. We say that openly.

On top come roughly 150 hours of your time over thirty years — and the behaviour gap, which nobody closes for you. The arithmetic is in What Makes arvy Different.

What does Pillar 3a cost?

Pillar 3a has its own flat fee of 0.93% a year, all-in — including all transactions, foreign exchange, the tax statement and educational content. By comparison, 1.2% to 2.5% is typical at a bank.

A new and cool offering will be launched in 2027! Stay tuned!

Investment strategies and products

Which strategy can I choose?

For the savings plan you first choose the variant and then a risk profile that fits your goal: Cautious (30% equities / 70% bonds), Balanced (60% / 40%) or Growth (100% equities).

For the Pillar 3a plan you can choose from five risk profiles. More under "Risk profiles for Pillar 3a plans". We aim for long-term, goal-oriented returns.

What exactly do you invest in?

That depends on the variant you choose:

World Market. The entire world equity market through low-cost index building blocks: roughly 88% developed markets and roughly 12% emerging markets, matching the weighting in the MSCI ACWI. Plus, depending on your profile, a Swiss franc bond fund.

World Market + Founders' Selection. The same world market, complemented by around 30 companies our founders pick by hand. The equity part is 60% world market and 40% Founders' Selection.

Founders' Selection. A concentrated portfolio of around 30 well-known, high-quality companies worldwide — "Good Story & Good Chart". Plus, depending on your profile, the Flossbach von Storch Bond Opportunities fund for stability.

Do you invest sustainably?

Yes! Quality first with ESG factors embedded in selection, focusing on strong, responsibly run global companies. (ESG = Environmental, Social, and Governance. A lens investors use to assess how a company treats the planet, people, and how it’s run.)

How often are my contributions invested?

Weekly. The more frequent the execution, the shorter your money sits uninvested on average.

Visibility in the app: settlement and technical processing take a little time. Your transaction usually appears as final in the app overview two banking days after the investment day.
Weekends and holidays: if an execution day falls on a weekend or public holiday, execution automatically moves to the next banking day.

What happens to dividends?

Dividends are reinvested automatically. Every fund used is accumulating, which means income stays inside the fund and is reinvested there — you need do nothing, and no stamp duty arises on your side.

This matters more than it sounds and is often neglected by investors: reinvesting income is one of the largest levers on your outcome over long periods. For tax purposes accumulation changes nothing in Switzerland — income is taxable in accumulating funds too.

Can I customize my investment profile? Does it cost anything?

Yes. You can change your profile and variant at any time in the app, and we charge nothing for it. The switch involves sales and purchases, so statutory costs such as stamp duty may arise.

Adjust your profile when your goals, time horizon, finances or risk tolerance change — not in reaction to short-term market moves. Choose it so that you can absorb a decline in a future crisis without having to sell at the worst possible moment.

Can I pick specific stocks or ETFs (e.g., Apple)?

No. We keep it simple: you choose a variant and a risk profile, and we do the rest. The portfolios are built for a sound risk-return balance and broad diversification, and designed for the long run. No micromanagement required.

How long should I plan to invest?

The longer you invest, the better you can compensate for market fluctuations and benefit from the compound interest effect. We recommend a minimum investment period of 5 to 7 years to achieve the best results.

Do you use physical or synthetic products?

We use only physically replicating products, which means the funds own the underlying shares and bonds. We avoid synthetic replication, which tracks indices through derivatives and brings counterparty risk with it.

For completeness: there are synthetic world funds cheaper than our combination. We still do not use them — for reasons of transparency and security.

Why no crypto for now?

We prioritize research backed, transparent investments designed for long-term stability. Cryptocurrencies are exciting but highly volatile, so we don’t offer them today. We continuously evaluate the space and may include cryptocurrency in future, once they meet our security, transparency, and longevity criteria.

Where can I see which funds are actually used?

On The Building Blocks. Every fund used is listed there with ISIN, costs, domicile and as-of date. It is the only page we have to update when something changes — which is why it is always current.

Why does World Market consist of two equity blocks rather than one fund?

Cost. A single fund covering developed and emerging markets costs 0.12% to 0.20% a year. Our two blocks together cost 0.06%. The price for it is one additional holding in the portfolio.

What are emerging markets, and why roughly 12%?

Emerging markets are countries whose capital markets are considered less developed than those of industrialised nations — the largest are Taiwan, China, India, Korea and Brazil. The 12% matches their current weight in the MSCI ACWI. The number is not our judgement, it is the market weight; we review it twice a year.

Surprising to many: the largest block within emerging markets is information technology at roughly 42%, not commodities.

Do I have to rebalance myself?

No. The weights are kept in line through incoming contributions, never through sales. That means no stamp duty and no spread arise from balancing.

Do you promise higher returns with Founders’ Selection?

No. Active selection is a decision of conviction, not a return promise. Anyone wanting a market-tracking solution at the lowest price is right with the World Market variant.

Will further building blocks be added?

An income strategy is planned for the pension solution — with a targeted payout of over 3% a year (a target, not a promise). You can join the waitlist on the pension solution page. Further building blocks — a Swiss allocation, for instance — we will build if the community wants them, not on spec.

Performance and returns

Why is the data in the app not up to date?

The performance and return data in the app is updated during the morning and shows the previous day’s values. Since the stock exchanges are closed at weekends and we do not receive any current data during this time, you can still see the data from Friday until Tuesday morning (before 11:00 a.m.), which was updated on Monday (around 11:00 a.m.).If you have made a deposit, you will always see it after 2.00 pm the following day if you have made it on the earliest possible value date. We will also send you an e-mail to confirm receipt.

However, as long-term investors, the daily fluctuation of the markets is not our main focus. We focus on optimizing your investment strategy over a longer period of time.

Are returns guaranteed?

No, as with any investment on the financial markets, returns cannot be guaranteed. The values of equities, funds, ETFs and other asset classes fluctuate depending on market developments. However, our diversified portfolios are designed to minimize risk and provide stable long-term returns.

How does the investment term affect my return?

Long-term investing is the key to stable returns. Over a longer period of time, market fluctuations are evened out and the compound interest effect ensures additional growth. The longer you invest, the greater the chance of a positive return. We recommend an investment period of at least 5-7 years. As an illustration, the probability of a positive return after

  • 1 day is 53.4%
  • 3 months at 69.3%
  • 1 year at 77.6%
  • 5 years at 92.6%
  • 10 years at 97.3%

In other words: If you catch the worst day to invest, you still have a 97.3% chance of being up in the last 100 years after 10 years.

What should I do in the event of market fluctuations?

Market fluctuations are part and parcel of any investment, but thanks to our broad diversification, the risk is minimized. In such phases, it is important to remain calm and stick to your long-term strategy, as short-term fluctuations do not usually have a major impact on long-term results.

Investing money always involves risk, especially in the short term. But in the long term, markets tend to rise. The longer you invest, the lower the risk. It is therefore important to start early and hold on to your investments even in times of crisis. You can also reduce the risk by making deposits and withdrawals gradually to avoid unfavorable timing.

Is now a good time to invest?

The best time to invest was 20 years ago, the second best time is now. As an illustration, the probability of a positive return after

  • 1 day is 53.4%
  • 3 months at 69.3%
  • 1 year at 77.6%
  • 5 years at 92.6%
  • 10 years at 97.3%

At arvy, we implement the following strategy: one-time payment + savings plan (dollar-cost averaging), which increases the probability of a positive return in the long term. We recommend the same investment plan to you!

The first step is to start with a one-time payment, because in the long run it is better to simply be in the market than to time it. If you make a larger initial investment, you give your money the maximum chance to grow and benefit directly from the compound interest effect.

With dollar-cost averaging (DCA), you then regularly add a fixed amount, regardless of the share price. By sticking to this routine, you avoid the stress of timing the market and smooth out the effects of market fluctuations. When prices are low, you buy more shares; when prices are high, you buy less.

The beauty of DCA is its simplicity and ability to reduce emotional decisions. Especially for new investors or those who are afraid of market fluctuations, it’s a great way to focus on long-term growth rather than daily price movements. By sticking with DCA, you allow compound interest to work its magic over time. Your investments grow, become more and build themselves up as you continue to invest, say, 10% or 20% of your monthly income. It’s best to automate your deposits with a standing order. That way you don’t have to think about it and won’t be tempted to speculate on a point in time.

arvy keeps you up to date with your investments, provides you with valuable insights and makes sure it’s a bit of fun too. It’s as simple as it sounds: open an account, choose your risk profile, start with a one-off payment as your initial investment and set up a monthly standing order for dollar-cost averaging. That’s it – we’ll take care of the rest!

My investments have lost value over time – what should I do?

Emotional decisions when investing can be detrimental in the long term. Especially in turbulent times, it is important to remain calm and rational. Even if it is difficult, you should stick to your plan and continue to invest regularly – or take the opportunity to buy at low prices.

Why you shouldn’t sell your investments despite temporary price losses:

Historically, markets have always recovered. Every financial crisis, no matter how severe or protracted, has been overcome at some point in the past. History shows that markets recover in the long term, even after the biggest setbacks. As an illustration, the probability of a positive return after

  1. 1 day is 53.4%
  2. 3 months at 69.3%
  3. 1 year at 77.6%
  4. 5 years at 92.6%
  5. 10 years at 97.3%
  • Diversification protects you from extreme losses

Your arvy portfolio is broadly diversified and invests in around 30 individual stocks from different sectors, countries and regions. This minimizes the risk of a total loss. A crisis never affects all markets with the same intensity at the same time.

  • You certainly don’t want to miss the next upswing

After heavy price losses, a recovery often occurs faster than many expect. Early investors can thus benefit from a strong upward movement that can quickly make up for the price loss. Never forget the stock market wisdom of André Kostolany: “If you don’t have stocks when they fall, you won’t have them when they rise.”

  • “Market timing” is usually a risky undertaking

Trying to find the perfect time to enter and exit the market is a difficult art and often leads to disappointment. If you always try to catch the best moment, in many cases you will not catch up with the markets. It is much safer to stay calm and profit from the fluctuations instead of constantly chasing after them.

  • Crises also offer opportunities

The lower the markets fall, the cheaper you can buy more. A prolonged downturn means more opportunities to invest when prices are low and benefit from a potential upturn in the long term.

What returns can I expect?

The level of returns depends on your chosen investment strategy and your risk profile. Our strategies are based on scientifically sound approaches that aim to achieve stable and attractive results over the long term. While conservative strategies offer lower fluctuations and more stable returns, riskier approaches can achieve higher returns in the long term – but with higher fluctuations.

Generally speaking:

Equities yield CHF 6-7% per year.

Bonds yield CHF 2-4% per year.

How is my portfolio performance measured?

The performance of your portfolio is measured using the money-weighted return (MWR) rather than the time-weighted return (TWR)

.• MWR takes into account the timing of your deposits and withdrawals, showing how effectively your portfolio has grown based on your own transactions.

• TWR, on the other hand, reflects the pure investment performance, independent of cash flows.

In the arvy app, you can view these values at any time and track your portfolio’s development. arvy calculates returns using the money-weighted return (MWR), which reflects the actual growth of your invested capital. This method shows the real return you have achieved as an investor, as it considers the impact of when you invested or withdrew money. The advantage of this method is that it aligns with your personal investment experience—if you invested at a favorable time, this is reflected in the return. However, the downside is that MWR is less suitable for comparing different investment strategies, as individual deposit and withdrawal timings have a significant impact on the result.
